- Xylergy SA Operational Multiple Roles Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve Biomass, Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Xylergy SA, having acquired Xylowatt SA, specializes in NOTAR® cutting-edge technology that efficiently converts biomass or waste into a clean, cold, tar-free gas. This gas is suitable for cogeneration engines or replacing fossil fuels in industrial furnaces, and the technology can process challenging feedstocks including contaminated wood and sewage sludge.
- Xylowatt Unknown Multiple Roles Wood Waste Xylowatt specializes in Biomass to Energy plants, utilizing innovative NOTAR® gasification technology to convert woodchips into clean syngas. They develop turnkey biomass gasification projects with a focus on zero-waste and by-product valorization.
- Aquafin Under Construction Plant Operator Aartselaar Sewage Sludge Aquafin, a Belgian wastewater treatment company, is developing an innovative biochar project at its RWZI Menen water treatment facility. The initiative will convert sludge byproducts from wastewater treatment into carbon-rich biochar through a new drying and pyrolysis plant, processing over 5,000 tons of sludge yearly to produce approximately 600 tons of biochar.
- ArcelorMittal Operational Plant Operator Wood Waste ArcelorMittal’s Torero biomass plant in Ghent, Belgium, commissioned in December 2023, converts 88,000 tons of waste wood annually into 37,500 tons of biochar. This biochar is used in blast furnaces to reduce fossil coal consumption and carbon emissions, with integration into their Steelanol facility for ethanol production from biogas.
- ArcelorMittal Ghent Operational Plant Operator Ghent Wood Waste ArcelorMittal Ghent operates the Torero biomass processing plant, converting 88,000 tons of wood waste annually into 37,500 tons of biochar for internal use in blast furnaces, reducing fossil coal consumption and carbon emissions. The plant also produces biogas, which is captured and converted into ethanol at their Steelanol demonstration plant.
- Be Bio Base vzw Operational Waste Management Company Biomass Focuses on sustainable solutions via 'Climate Smart Agroforestry' and converts local green waste into biochar by pyrolysis, which serves as a soil improver or for water, gas, or soil purification.
